Our Paver Restoration Process

Over time, your once-vibrant outdoor retreat may have lost its luster. Revitalizing a paver patio is a gratifying project that can breathe new life into your outdoor space.

Entrust the task to our skilled professionals and savor the joy of your refreshed patio once again. Below are the 4 steps we take during paver restoration projects.

Step 1

Conducting a FREE On-Site Assessment for the EstimatE

The first step we take in restoring your pavers is conducting a detailed on-site assessment. This means we visit your property in person to look at your pavers. We carefully assess how much cleaning is needed. We look for especially dirty, stained, or damaged areas that need extra care and attention. We also look for unlevel areas, cracked, broken or loose stones.

We determine the material of your pavers, whether they are made from stone, concrete, or clay. Knowing the composition helps us decide how to clean and restore them. We want to ensure we clean your pavers effectively without causing any damage.

Calculating the Cost

The cost to restore your pavers depends on a few different things. First, we look at the size of your outdoor space. This is measured in square footage – think of it like the total area your pavers cover. Bigger areas might cost more to restore because they have more pavers.

Our pricing per square foot includes removing the old sealer and removing stuff like stains, weeds, moss, dirt, and grime. This full service includes putting new sand in the joints, compacting the sand into the joints, and adding a layer of sealer to all surfaces, whether they’re horizontal or vertical, including the cap stones.

We will do minor repairs (for an additional charge) or remove certain stains like rust, tree sap, driveway tar, food grease, or oil. You might get discounts if your project is big, but there is a minimum threshold. We’ll need to come at least 4 times in our paver restoration process. Once for the estimating, second is for the cleaning, that may include old sealer removal. The third visit is when we re-sand, compact and wet the sand. On the 4th and final visit, we apply the matte or gloss finish sealer to enhance the beauty of the stone’s natural colors.

Step 2

Cleaning the Patio

After assessing the condition and material of your pavers, we move on to the cleaning process. This involves using the appropriate cleaning agents and equipment. The kind of cleaner we use depends on your pavers.

For instance, a different agent might be used for stone pavers rather than clay ones. These cleaning agents are designed to remove natural stains, dirt and other organic contaminants, making your pavers look like new.

We also use high-quality equipment to clean your pavers. Our tools help us cover all areas, even the tough-to-reach spots. The professional-grade pressure washers we use can remove the most stubborn dirt and stains.

Letting the Patio Dry

The next step in our paver restoration process is extremely important. After cleaning your pavers, we need to let them dry completely. This might seem like a simple step, but it’s crucial for the next parts of the process.

Allowing your patio to dry thoroughly ensures the surface is clean and moisture-free before we move on to sanding and sealing. This step also allows us to see if there are any remaining stains or problem areas that may require additional attention.

Depending on weather conditions, it can take 24-48 hours for your pavers to fully dry.

Step 3

The Re-Sanding and Compacting Process

Once your patio is dry, we move on to the next step: filling the gaps between your pavers with the highest quality polymetric sand. We will match the prior color of sand as best we can (if the prior sand manufacturer has changed anything, that would be out of our control). This process is crucial for the structural integrity of your patio.

The sand helps to stabilize your pavers and keep them level. Gaps between pavers are natural but can become bigger over time due to wear and weathering. The sand fills in these gaps, preventing weeds from growing and keeping your pavers firmly in place.

After filling the gaps with sand, we use a compactor to press the sand into place and ensure an even and stable surface. This step helps prevent shifting or sinking of your pavers, keeping your patio level and safe for walking on.

Hydrating the Sand

Hydrating sand means adding water to the poly sand we’ve used to fill the gaps between your pavers. When water is added, the sand settles down more solidly, creating a firm base for your pavers and then hardens like cement.

This process is essential because it helps to prevent your pavers from moving or shifting in the future. Hydrating the sand ensures a solid foundation for your patio and reduces the risk of any potential damage in the long run.

Step 4

Applying Enhancements

We also apply enhancements to your pavers. This can include sealers or color enhancers, which protect your pavers and enhance their visual appeal while helping to lock in the joint stabilizing sand.

Sealers form a protective layer over your pavers, safeguarding them from damage due to weather exposure, spills, or heavy foot traffic. They help prolong the life of your pavers and maintain their appearance.

You can choose between joint stabilizing matte or joint stabilizing wet look sealers. The joint stabilizing sealer we use features an anti-fungal agent. This will deter (but not prevent) the growth of moss and algae.

Color enhancers, on the other hand, are applied to revive the natural colors of your pavers and highlight their unique texture and patterns. They can intensify the colors, providing a richer, more vivid appearance that can transform your outdoor space.

Conducting a Final Inspection

After all 4 steps are completed, we don’t just pack up our gear and go. We make sure to conduct a thorough final inspection. This step ensures that everything we’ve done meets our highest standards and that you, the customer, are thrilled.

Our trained professionals carefully check every nook and corner of your pavers. They make sure no spots have been missed during cleaning, sanding, and sealing. They also double-check to see if the sand has settled correctly in the gaps and if the sealers and enhancers have been applied evenly.

If there are any issues or discrepancies, we address them right away. This could mean doing some additional touch-ups where necessary. The goal is to ensure that your pavers are restored perfectly and that your pavers look their best.

Keeping Your Restored Pavers in Good Shape

To keep your newly restored pavers looking their best, it’s important to set up a regular maintenance routine. Sweeping away leaves, twigs, and other debris should be a part of your everyday chores. This helps prevent dirt build-up and keeps your patio looking clean. If you spill something, clean it up right away. If it’s food grease or oil, please contact us right away to clean it, if you cannot. The longer grease and oil sit, the more likely the stain will not come clean again.

The faster you act, the less chance of a stain setting in. Also, do regular patio inspections. Look for signs of wear or damage, like loose or cracked pavers. These inspections can help you spot small issues before they become bigger problems.

The Value of Restored Paver Areas

Restoring your pavers does much more than improve how your outdoor space looks. A well-kept patio is also a key feature of a home where you can relax, entertain guests, and make memories. Think of your paver patio like an outdoor living room without a roof. Unfortunately, to look its best, it will require a lot more TLC. When you put in a paver driveway or walkway it truly makes your home stand out from the neighbors and over time, it too will require maintenance. We are here to help you to keep your curb appeal to your standards. We will treat your property like it’s our very own!
