Decks, Fences, Pergolas & Exterior Wood Maintenance
Wood Restoration in the Lehigh Valley
Exterior wood adds warmth and character to a home, but it also requires care. At The Pressure Wash Company, our wood restoration services are designed to clean, maintain, repair, and when appropriate rebuild exterior wood surfaces so they remain safe, functional, and enjoyable.
While we’re best known for paver restoration, we take wood seriously. We understand how wood ages, how moisture and shade affect it, and when restoration makes sense versus when replacement is the smarter move.
What Wood Restoration Is (and Isn’t)
Wood restoration is not just pressure washing. In fact, improper pressure is one of the fastest ways to damage wood.
True wood restoration starts with an in-person assessment to determine:
- The condition of the wood
- How it has been maintained (or coated) over time.
- Whether it can be cleaned and restored.
- Or whether repair or replacement is the safer, longer-lasting option.
Not every project needs every step and not every surface can be saved. Our job is to explain those differences clearly so you can make the rightdecision for your home.

Surfaces We Work With
We restore, maintain, and repair a wide range of exterior wood surfaces, including:
- Wood decks
- Wood fences
- Pergolas, railings, and posts
- Wood stairs, landings, and handrails
We also clean composite decks (such as Trex). Composite surfaces are cleaning only they are not sanded or stained and are handled with surface-appropriate methods. Every surface is evaluated so we know when soft washing is appropriate and when controlled pressure is safe to use.
Our Wood Restoration Process (High-Level)
Depending on the condition of the wood, restoration may include:
- Professional cleaning to remove dirt, algae, mold, and mildew.
- Wood brightening to restore natural color and remove graying.
- Sanding when surfaces are rough, worn, or uneven.
- Staining to protect the wood and slow future deterioration.
We take our time and work methodically. We don’t apply treatments that won’t hold, and we don’t recommend services that won’t benefit you long-term.
Repair & Rebuild-In-Place Options
In some cases, cleaning alone isn’t enough — but full deck replacement isn’t necessary either. If the structural framework of your deck is sound, we have the tools and expertise to:
- Remove and replace all deck boards.
- Install new railings, handrails, posts, and cocktail rails.
- Replace stairs and steps.
- Update the look and layout using new wood materials.
This type of rebuild-in-place approach is often far more cost-effective than tearing out an entire deck and starting from scratch. We are not a framing contractor rebuilding decks from the ground up. However, when it comes to replacing wood components on an existing, structurally sound deck, we’re fully equipped and happy to do it. If a project falls outside our scope, we’ll tell you upfront.
When Wood Can’t (or Shouldn’t) Be Saved
Some wood simply isn’t a good candidate for restoration.
A common example is decks that have been coated with latex paint for many years. When wood is sealed under layer after layer of paint, it often can’t breathe. Once that paint is removed, the wood underneath may be severely compromised.
In situations like this, we’ll explain what we’re seeing and outline your options clearly. Sometimes replacement is the safest and most cost-effective path forward and we won’t try to restore something that’s already past its useful life.

Safety, Slip Risk & Why Maintenance Matters
Wood surfaces covered in algae and organic growth often turn green, black, gray, blue, or brown. When wet, these surfaces can become extremely slippery far more so than concrete or pavers, which still have natural grit. We’ve seen it firsthand: decks and stairs that look “fine” suddenly become dangerous the moment it rains. Slips, falls, rotted boards, and deteriorated steps are some of the most common causes of injuries around the home.
Regular wood cleaning isn’t just about appearance it’s about keeping your property safe.
Routine Wood Maintenance (Preventative Care)
Many of our customers choose routine wood maintenance, especially for shaded decks, stairs, and fences prone to algae buildup. We can schedule cleanings on a recurring basis typically every one to two years and send reminders when it’s time. For convenience, we can keep a card on file and handle maintenance automatically. It’s similar to servicing your HVAC system: regular maintenance helps prevent bigger, more expensive problems later.

Every project starts with an in-person assessment and an honest

We show up when we say we will, communicate clearly, and treat your property with care. No pressure, no gimmicks just straightforward guidance and professional results.
Is Wood Restoration Right for Your Property?
If your deck, fence, or wood structures are slippery, weathered, or overdue for maintenance, wood restoration may be the right solution. The best way to know is with an in-person assessment and a clear plan.
Deck Restoration

Pool deck projects require careful timing.
Best options:
- Within one week after your pool is opened.
- Or in late September or October, after pool season ends.
Scheduling just days before a pool party is not realistic, as debris will enter the pool during cleaning. Pool deck projects require advance planning.
Yes. We clean and restore wood decks, fences, and other wood surfaces. During our in-person assessment, we determine whether the wood can be restored or if replacement is recommended.
Services may include deep cleaning, wood brightening, sanding, and staining.
Yes. We use oil-based, semi-transparent wood stains made in the USA.
We carry stain samples and manufacturer literature to help homeowners choose confidently.
Our oil-based stains typically last two to four years, depending on exposure and use. Once the initial restoration is complete, future maintenance is often simpler and may only require light sanding and re-staining.
We recommend starting with the lightest color you’re happy with. You can always go darker in the future, but it is very difficult to return to a lighter color once dark stain is applied.
